While the Backrooms first seem to be a harmless, uninteresting area, it rapidly becomes evident that it is a dangerous location. The rooms are often unoccupied, but not completely empty. Some versions of the Backrooms mythology include dangerous monsters hiding in the labyrinth, ranging from shadowy figures to more terrifying beings that stalk the imprisoned explorers.
Some individuals believe there are multiple levels of the Backrooms, each with its own set of perils, settings, and creatures.
The persistent buzzing of the fluorescent lights is one of the Backrooms' most distinguishing traits. This persistent, droning sound heightens the impression of confusion and claustrophobia, as the hum seems to reverberate across the infinite passageways, creating an uncomfortable backrooms game mood.
